QUICK CLIP: Ron Johnson “Doesn’t Have Plans To Get Vaccinated” For COVID-19 Despite CDC’s Clear Public Health Guidance

Latest Example Of GOP’s Most Vulnerable Incumbent Embracing Irresponsible Positions And Contradicting Medical Experts

Senator Ron Johnson told CBS 58 in an interview yesterday that he “doesn’t have plans to get vaccinated” because he contracted COVID-19 last year, contradicting public health recommendations on the issue. The CDC’s clear guidance “recommends those who’ve recovered from the virus to still get vaccinated.” Johnson “often criticizes precautions to slow the spread of the virus” and even “stopped short of encouraging people to get [the vaccine]” in yesterday’s interview.

Of course, this is not the first time that the GOP’s most vulnerable incumbent has disregarded the facts, dismissed medical experts and scientific evidence or embraced irresponsible and unsubstantiated positions when it comes to the coronavirus response. Johnson has also bragged that he would oppose even “even a dime more” in COVID-19 relief spending and voted against the American Rescue Plan this past weekend as an “outspoken” opponent of the overwhelmingly popular bill, despite over 7,000 Wisconsinites having died from the virus and more than half a million having been infected.

CBS 58 Exclusive: Sen. Johnson doesn’t plan to get vaccination since he ‘had COVID’ despite CDC guidance

  • MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) — U.S. Senator Ron Johnson said he doesn’t have plans to get vaccinated because he “had COVID,” despite CDC guidance that recommends those who’ve recovered from the virus to still get vaccinated.
  • The Republican senator, who tested positive for coronavirus in October, tells CBS 58 he won’t get the vaccine since he believes he still has “immunity.”
  • “No, I had COVID,” Johnson said. “I think that probably provides me with the best immunity possible (for) actually having the disease.”
  • The CDC encourages those who’ve recovered from COVID-19 to still get vaccinated because “experts do not yet know how long you are protected from getting sick again after recovering from COVID-19.”
  • Johnson, who often criticizes precautions to slow the spread of the virus, signaled support for vaccination efforts so far, but stopped short of encouraging people to get one.
