As he faces “depressed political standing back home” because “he doesn’t spend much time these days in his home state,” Rand Paul has now created another problem for himself. Last week, on an Iowa radio show, Senator Rand Paul compared efforts to make college more affordable to heroin addiction.
Yep, that’s right – Paul compared the opportunity for students to receive a college education they may not have otherwise had access to as though it were free heroin.
As Buzzfeed reports, Paul said:
“If someone offers you something for free, treat it as if they’re offering you heroin and think about the repercussions of what is free and what is a drug, an addicting drug like heroin and the ramifications of that.”
“Rand Paul’s latest ridiculous comments comparing access to a college education to access to heroin highlight just how out of touch he is with families in Kentucky,” said Sadie Weiner, DSCC Communications Director. “Maybe if Rand Paul spent more time in Kentucky and less time on a doomed Presidential bid, he would understand that heroin addiction is no joke and that the cost of college keeps parents and students up at night. This is just another example of Rand Paul’s out-of-touch attitude that’s led him to treat the people of Kentucky as a consolation prize.”
