Senate Democrats “Dominated The Money Race Once Again” in Q4

Across the battleground states, Senate Democrats’ battle-tested incumbents and formidable challengers are “racking up funds” and “outraising Republican[s]” during the fourth quarter, “dominat[ing] the money race once again.” Meanwhile, Republican challengers and incumbents posted “downright bad” fundraising numbers, with significant debt, “relatively little money in the bank,” and “anemic total[s].”

Here’s what they’re saying:

  • National Journal: “Senate Democratic candidates dominated the money race once again, according to year-end finance reports filed Thursday. In critical states such as Montana, Ohio, and Nevada, Democratic incumbents outraised their challengers by millions of dollars.”

  • Roll Call: “Democratic incumbents and challengers in battleground Senate races raised more than opponents during the last three months of 2023 and had bigger bankrolls at the start of the year, new filings with the Federal Election Commission show.”

  • The New York Times: “Across the map of battleground Senate races, where incumbents, many of them Democrats, are largely starting the year with significant financial advantages over their challengers.”

  • The Detroit News: “Elissa Slotkin continued to dominate the money race for the open U.S. Senate seat in Michigan, out-raising her opponents by millions of dollars in the last quarter.”

  • Florida Politics: In Florida, “Debbie Mucarsel-Powell raised $2M-plus in [the] final quarter of 2023. That’s more than Rick Scott collected from outside sources… Mucarsel-Powell has contributed no self-funding to her campaign.”

  • The Texas Tribune: In Texas, “U.S. Rep. Colin Allred outraised…Sen. Ted Cruz’s campaign in the last quarter of 2023. Allred’s campaign raised over $4.8 million from October through December last year, while Cruz’s campaign raised roughly $3.4 million. Allred finished the quarter with over $10 million in cash on hand, compared to Cruz’s $6.2 million.”
