North Carolina’s latest discriminatory law made major headlines in state and nationally last week. Major companies like the NBA, Dow Chemical, Google and PayPal have condemned the law, yet North Carolina’s own Senator Richard Burr is trying to claim he doesn’t know enough about the law to comment. Burr’s other excuse for ducking a position is that the new law, known as HB2, is a state-level issue, but a new lawsuit has been filed in federal court.
Senator Burr needs to come clean about his position on his state’s discriminatory law.
“North Carolina’s new law is shameful, and should be called out as such, but Senator Richard Burr refuses to give a clear answer on where he stands on the issue,” said Lauren Passalacqua, DSCC National Press Secretary. “Until he takes a stand, it can only be assumed that Richard Burr is tacitly approving of this new controversial law. North Carolinians deserve to know what Burr’s position is.”
