Senator David Perdue voted again today to defend toxic junk health care plans “so skimpy that they offer no meaningful coverage” — failing a critical “litmus test for anyone who claims to support protecting people with preexisting conditions.” These junk plans are not required to cover pre-existing conditions, prescription drugs, or maternity benefits, and “generally refuse” to provide coverage to people who are pregnant or who have a history of cancer or other diagnoses, yet Senator Perdue just voted again to promote these harmful plans at Georgians’ expense.
“Senator Perdue’s support for these reckless junk health plans makes it clear why he has no credibility when it comes to protecting Georgians’ health care,” said DSCC spokesperson Stewart Boss. “Not only has Perdue said that ‘of course’ he wants his party’s toxic health care lawsuit to succeed, but by again throwing his support behind these junk plans, Senator Perdue is going even further to expose Georgians to higher costs, unreliable care, and weaker protections for critical benefits like pre-existing conditions coverage and maternity care.”
Senator Perdue has already voted to defend these junk plans, which the American Cancer Society and American Heart Association have vocally opposed, and his support comes as he has said that “of course” he wants his party’s legal attacks on Georgians’ health care to succeed — even if that means an end to coverage protections for pre-existing conditions, maternity care, and allowing kids to stay on their parents’ insurance until age 26.
