Up to 30,000 Hoosiers have benefited from TAA program since Young’s been in office, but he’s voted against it
The Department of Labor announced yesterday that employees at Carrier who are losing their jobs to Mexico are eligible to receive critical career and training services available through the Trade Adjustment Assistance Program (TAA). Approximately 1,400 Hoosiers who Carrier laid off will benefit from the program, but Congressman Todd Young has voted against funding for it and even says he “philosophically” opposes it.
But it’s not just these 1,400 Carrier employees Congressman Young is against helping get back on their feet. Since Young was elected to office in 2010, up to 30,000 Hoosiers who lost their jobs to outsourcing have benefited from the services provided through the TAA program.
“Tens of thousands of Hoosiers have benefited from the trade adjustment assistance program, but Congressman Todd Young would prefer to leave them out in the cold,” said DSCC spokesperson Sam Lau. “Congressman Young says he’s ‘philosophically opposed’ to a program that provides critical benefits to Hoosiers whose jobs have been shipped overseas, and that’s just not right for Indiana. Unlike Todd Young, Evan Bayh will stand up to the special interests and put hardworking Hoosier families first.”
