In a desperate attempt to hide that he stood by Donald Trump and his awful comments about women (not to mention Latinos, immigrants and Gold Star families) for months, Senator John McCain will launch a “Women for McCain” coalition today. But even before he shamefully supported Trump as he spewed offensive and sexist rhetoric about women, McCain built a long record of being wrong for Arizona women.
Some of the highlights from a 33-year career of voting against the interests of Arizona women:
“Senator John McCain may be touting his ‘Women for McCain’ coalition today in a transparent attempt to distract from the months he spent standing quietly by Donald Trump’s offensive comments about women, but he built a record of voting against Arizona women long before Trump was in the picture,” said DSCC National Press Secretary Lauren Passalacqua. “No amount of political fanfare can hide that from voting to limit access to women’s health services to opposing equal pay legislation, McCain consistently voted against the interests of Arizona women. After 33 years of John McCain representing them in Washington, Arizona women are ready for a Senator like Ann Kirkpatrick who will fight for them.”
