Today, the DSCC released a new video highlighting Senator Susan Collins’ refusal to meet the standard she set two decades ago when she clearly and firmly demanded to hear from witnesses at the Senate impeachment trial. In 1999, Collins repeatedly said in interviews that the Senate ‘needed’ to hear from witnesses. But when given the chance to support subpoenas for key witnesses and documents in Trump’s impeachment trial earlier this month, Collins repeatedly sided with Mitch McConnell and obstructed the Senate hearing from firsthand witnesses.
In recent days, Mainers have made it clear that they’re fed up with Collins “playing both sides” and putting “pettifogging” over “taking a principled stand” despite the fact that an overwhelming majority of constituents want her to insist on witnesses — and failing to do so would amount to “a cover-up.” Collins owes Mainers an explanation of why she continues to put political expediency over her constituents and the standards she set for herself and the Senate two decades ago.
The DSCC launched WhatChangedSusan.com to highlight Senator Collins’ alignment with Mitch McConnell and refusal to set the same standards for a fair impeachment process that she did in 1999. WhatChangedSusan.com will be updated regularly as the impeachment process unfolds.
