After months of the GOP expressing doubts and fears about Kari Lake, the first day of Lake’s Senate campaign inspired a wave of new reporting highlighting how Republicans are “freaking out” about her candidacy. 

Here’s what Republicans are saying about Kari Lake: 

• The New York Times: Republicans are “freaking out” about Lake’s candidacy

• POLITICO: “I don’t think she has any prospect of actually being elected,” said Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah). “The people of Arizona are smarter than that.”

• ABC 15: “We already know who she is, and the voters rejected her once,” said Republican political consultant Barrett Marson.

• MSNBC: “Republican insiders wanted an electable Senate nominee with broad appeal in Arizona. They’re likely to get election denier Kari Lake instead.”

From DSCC Chair Senator Gary Peters: “Lake’s campaign announcement is Senate Republicans’ worst nightmare. She has dangerous views and harmful policies: an abortion ban without exceptions, ending Medicare and Social Security, and fringe conspiracies that are far out of step with normal Arizonans. Even Republicans didn’t want Lake to run because voters rejected her before, and they’ll do so again in 2024.”
