Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell admitted during a live interview on Fox News last night that Senate Republicans will cover up for Trump, pledging to “take my cues from the president’s lawyers” and vowing there would be “no difference” between the White House and Republican Majority.
The admission exposes how the GOP Senate will cover up for the president instead of providing a fair and bipartisan hearing of the evidence. It also undermines vulnerable incumbents — including Senators Cory Gardner and Susan Collins — who have dodged questions about the president’s abuse of the power of his office by claiming they’ll be open minded jurors in the Senate trial.
“Before a fair trial, jurors don’t promise to take their cues from the defense — but that’s exactly what Mitch McConnell pledged the Republican Senate will do,” said DSCC spokesperson Lauren Passalacqua. “McConnell’s admission means every Republican senator is disrespecting the rule of law and enabling a cover-up.”
