REALITY CHECK: McSally Misleads Again on Record of Voting to Gut Pre-Existing Conditions Coverage Protections

McSally Voted to Repeal Pre-Existing Conditions Protections & Defended Junk Plans That Can “Deny Coverage Based on Consumers’ Pre-Existing Health Conditions”

In a recent TV interview, unelected Senator Martha McSally tried to mislead Arizonans on her toxic record of voting to weaken coverage protections for people with pre-existing conditions. Asked about her votes threatening to undermine Arizonans’ health care protections, McSally offered up word salad that was once again missing an explanation for why she’s repeatedly backed reckless proposals that would gut the protections her constituents rely on. WATCH:

Here’s what unelected Senator Martha McSally said:

  • “We are never going back — ever — to where we were before, where insurance companies could deny people with pre-existing conditions.”

But here’s the truth about McSally’s record in Washington:

  • McSally infamously said “let’s get this f***ing thing done” before voting for the GOP health care plan that would gut pre-existing conditions protections. And one of her first votes in Congress was to repeal the health care law and its coverage protections, with no replacement.
  • When that failed, McSally voted for the GOP tax giveaway that “sparked” a federal lawsuit that could end pre-existing conditions protections.
  • McSally refused to take a stand against her party’s lawsuit to tear down pre-existing conditions protections, saying “it’s not [her] role” to protect her constituents’ care from the lawsuit she helped enable.

With a record like this, it’s no wonder McSally lamented last year that she was “getting [her] ass kicked” on health care. But rather than learn from her last failed campaign, McSally is doubling down on her toxic health care agenda while trying to paper over the facts — showing Arizonans exactly why they can’t trust her to be honest or protect their care.
