Richard Burr “Delighted” By Donald Trump

With his own poll numbers in the basement, Richard Burr has tried a new strategy – embrace the GOP Presidential frontrunner Donald Trump. Burr had this to say about The Donald to WNCN:

I think Donald Trump has brought a level of passion to running for office that I’m delighted to see.  He’s approached a majority of the issues in a more common sense way that a majority of Americans can associate with.

Delighted? Common sense? Here’s a few of Trump’s greatest hits since declaring his candidacy that Burr must find “delightful” and full of “common sense”:

  • Trump attacked John McCain and mocked his service saying “he’s not a war hero” and “I like people who weren’t captured.”
  • After Megyn Kelly asked Trump tough questions about his misogynistic comments, including calling some women “fat pigs, dogs, slobs and disgusting animals,”  Trump suggested Kelly had “blood coming out of her wherever.”

Yesterday, the same day Burr did a full bear hug of Donald Trump, PPP released their latest poll of the North Carolina Senate race. And the results were not pretty for Burr. Only 31% of voters approve of the job he’s doing, with 37% who disapprove. In head-to-head matchups with potential opponents, Burr fares poorly, and can’t get above 50% against any of them.

“Richard Burr’s poll numbers are abysmal, so he’s resorted to wrapping his arms around GOP Presidential frontrunner Donald Trump in the hopes that he can attract some of his enthusiasm,” said Sadie Weiner, DSCC National Press Secretary. “The problem for Richard Burr is that he’s now hailed Trump, who can’t help but hurl insults at women, immigrants and even veterans, as ‘delightful’ and ‘common sense.’ It says a lot about the weakness of Burr’s candidacy that his best strategy now is to embrace Donald Trump.”
