Following the tragic attack in Orlando last week, the Senate tonight voted again on commonsense legislation to close the dangerous loophole that allows suspected terrorists to purchase firearms.
Back in December, following the San Bernardino shootings that killed 14 people, Ayotte joined her Republican colleagues and shamefully voted to block this legislation. But tonight, seeing her elections prospects in doubt and her approval ratings slipping due to her previous votes, Ayotte voted for two opposing measures.
“Kelly Ayotte seems to think she can fool New Hampshire voters with her political posturing on gun safety, but her record speaks for itself” said DSCC spokesperson Sam Lau. “First, Senator Ayotte was a deciding vote against the bipartisan background check bill that Republicans killed in 2013. Then, after the horrific shootings in San Bernardino in December, Ayotte could have taken action to close the terrorist gun loophole, but instead she put the special interests first. Now she’s playing politics after seeing her poll numbers slip. New Hampshire families deserve better than Kelly Ayotte, who appears more motivated by the political winds than any serious commitment to commonsense gun safety measures.”
