Following the tragic attack in Orlando last week, the Senate tonight voted on commonsense legislation to close the dangerous loophole that allows suspected terrorists to purchase firearms.
But once again, just like he did in December, Senator Rob Portman shamefully joined his Republican colleagues and blocked the bill.
“After the horrific tragedy in Orlando, Senator Portman should be doing everything he can to prevent gun violence in our communities,” said DSCC spokesperson Sam Lau. “But Senator Portman once again put partisan politics first, and doubled down on his opposition to closing the terrorist gun loophole. Ohio families deserve better than Rob Portman who continues to refuse to take meaningful action on commonsense gun safety measures.”
