DSCC FRIDAY TAKEAWAYS: SENATE GOP BLOCKS IVF PROTECTIONS (AGAIN), DONALD TRUMP WANTS HOGAN IN THE SENATE, “NERVOUS” GOP FRETTING ABOUT SAM BROWN

LIKE CLOCKWORK: SENATE GOP BLOCKS IVF PROTECTIONS → Senate Republicans AGAIN voted against protecting access to IVF treatment, the latest example of how Republicans oppose women’s right to make their own decisions about their health care and families.

  • 📣 DSCC: “This vote shines a spotlight on the threat that Cruz, Scott and every Republican Senate candidate poses to women’s right to make their most personal decisions about their health care and their families for themselves.”

BUT REALLY, THE HEADLINES SAY IT ALL → After the vote, Senate Republicans were hit with wall-to-wall coverage slamming them for blocking protections for IVF treatment. See for yourself.

SENATE REPUBLICANS “PLAY A DANGEROUS GAME WITH BIRTH CONTROL” → Analysis in the National Journal detailed that Senate Republicans are “play[ing] a dangerous game with birth control” after blocking protections for contraception, noting it “may not be good electoral strategy to vote against something that 80-plus percent of voters approve of.”

SCOTT IN THE HOT SEAT ON REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS → Floridians called out Rick Scott this week for voting against protecting contraception and IVF, saying his opposition to reproductive care “hurt[s] women” and has “real and dangerous effects on the health and well-being of women across Florida.”

IN NEVADA, “NERVOUS” REPUBLICANS FRETTING ABOUT SAM BROWN ABC News wrote that “Republicans are nervous” and “torn” about Sam Brown’s nomination and “whether his…unvetted policy chops are enough to convince Nevadans he can tackle the issues they care about.”

  • BREAKING TODAY FROM THE DAILY BEAST: “Brown loves railing against government spending and efforts to improve diversity… he himself received millions of dollars in federal aid for disadvantaged businesses, in one instance seeing his own Native American heritage help him secure more cash.”
  • “On the campaign trail, Brown has also taken aim at initiatives to promote diversity, equity and inclusion, widely known as DEI, throughout American life. Decrying “how many ‘diversity’ checkboxes” have crept into everyday affairs, he has described such initiatives as divisive, particularly in the military in which he served.”
  • “Brown himself, however, has checked diversity boxes. Identified as a member of the Cherokee Nation in a 2023 National Review article, he spent several years taking advantage of hefty government contracts, including one in which “enrolled members of a state recognized Indian tribe” were deemed to have “socially disadvantaged status”.
  • On the first day of the general election, Jacky Rosen’s campaign released their new ad, “Valerie”, which shares the story of a woman forced to leave Texas to receive critical reproductive care due to an extreme abortion ban backed by Sam Brown.

TRUMP’S SUPPORT FOR HOGAN MAKES THE MARYLAND FRONT PAGES → Donald Trump officially threw his support behind Larry Hogan, saying “I’d like to see him win” as Trump and Republicans seek to take control of the Senate majority.

🏖️ HOVDE DITCHES WISCONSIN OC FOR CALIFORNIA OC → While he was supposed to be in Oconto County, WI for a meet and greet with Wisconsinites on Saturday, POLITICO reported that California Banker Eric Hovde instead appeared to be thousands of miles away “in Laguna Beach, California, where he owns a home.”

SHADY SHEEHY’S CAUGHT COVERING UP WORK FOR GROUP THAT BACKS “PRIVATIZING AMERICA’S PUBLIC LANDS” → New reporting from HuffPost revealed, “Sheehy failed to disclose his role at the Property and Environment Research Center, a property rights and environmental research nonprofit that has a history of advocating for privatizing America’s federal lands.”

  • “Public lands have emerged as a key issue in the race, with Tester painting Sheehy as a threat to their future and the Montana way of life. Sheehy’s failure to disclose his work at PERC could further complicate his already messy messaging on public lands policy.”

KARI LAKE STILL DROWNING IN BAD PRESS →

OUCH…ROGERS “UNFIT TO SERVE” → This week, the Detroit Free Press Editorial Board slammed GOP candidate Mike Rogers, imploring Michiganders not to vote for him and citing his “transactional approach to politics, his ideological inconsistency and obeisance to former President Donald Trump” which “render him a poor fit for this Senate seat.”

OHIOANS ON MORENO: “SOMEONE WHO JUST DOES NOT TELL THE TRUTH” → This week in Toledo, Ohio leaders gathered and slammed Bernie Moreno as “someone who just does not tell the truth” for his record of lies and “inaccurate” statements on the campaign trail.
