Today, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) announced the launch of FlipTheSenate.com — a new online hub for voters to learn more about Democratic Senate challengers and incumbents, sign up to volunteer with campaigns, and donate directly to candidates. The new website also shares information on why Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans need to be defeated in 2020, spotlighting their records attacking health care and rewarding corporate special interests instead of hardworking families.
FlipTheSenate.com will be a one-stop shop over the next five months for engaging with Democratic campaigns across the Senate battlefield, from making contributions to their favorite candidates to signing up for virtual organizing efforts.
“With so much on the line in this election, we want to ensure people across the country have the tools they need to take action and help us elect a Democratic majority to the U.S. Senate,” said DSCC Chair Catherine Cortez Masto. “In the last week, we saw how Senate Republicans once again failed yet another basic test of leadership when they refused to hold the president accountable for using force against peaceful protesters for a photo op. And under Mitch McConnell’s leadership, Senate Republicans have voted to gut protections for pre-existing conditions, blocked prescription drug reform, and undermined desperately needed relief for hospitals, workers, and state and local governments on the front lines of this pandemic. It’s not enough to win back the White House in November — we need to flip the Senate.”
The new DSCC website comes as Democrats are building “momentum” to take back the Senate and “Republican strategists are increasingly worried” and “nervous” about losing their majority. Recent polling shows Democrats leading vulnerable Republican incumbents in key battleground states. Nonpartisan election analysts have overwhelmingly shifted race ratings in Democrats’ direction since the start of the cycle and moved the overall Senate battle to an increasingly competitive toss-up.
In the first quarter of the year, Democratic Senate challengers continued to post impressive fundraising numbers and outraised GOP opponents in 10 seats currently held by Republicans. That trend has continued in recent weeks with Democratic challengers outraising Republican incumbents in pre-primary fundraising in Georgia, Iowa, Montana, and South Carolina.
The DSCC is also having its best-ever fundraising cycle in history — including record-breaking totals every month so far in 2020. In April, more than 71% of the DSCC’s fundraising came in from grassroots donations online, on the phones, and in the mail, a record for the committee. Overall this cycle, more than 50% of the DSCC’s fundraising has come from grassroots donations, a record for the committee. The DSCC has also received a total of over 1.4 million individual online donations so far this cycle – a 160% increase compared to last cycle. The DSCC has raised over $13 million more online so far this cycle than at the same point in the 2018 cycle, further underscoring Senate Democrats’ growing grassroots momentum.
