Senator John McCain reiterated his plan to ignore his constitutional duty, standing lockstep with the Republican Party to block the Supreme Court nominee from moving forward.
The problem? McCain once supported Judge Garland; he voted to confirm the nominee to the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia in 1997.
Even McCain’s former chief of staff and former Arizona Attorney General Grant Woods today called on the Senate to do its job and confirm Garland.
“There’s nothing ‘maverick’ about Senator McCain’s decision to put Washington politics ahead of doing his job,” Lauren Passalacqua, DSCC National Press Secretary. “It is shameful that John McCain is playing games with something as important as a Supreme Court nominee, and come November, Arizona will elect a leader who will put her responsibilities ahead of any political party.”
