“Strong” May Jobs Report Is “Latest Sign Of A Strengthening Recovery” Thanks To Democrats’ American Rescue Plan

Strong Jobs Numbers, Declining Unemployment Rate Underscore Importance Of Relief Package Opposed By Every GOP Senator

DSCC spokesperson David Bergstein released the following statement on the “strong” May jobs report:

“Today’s jobs report is the latest confirmation that the American Rescue Plan was exactly what our nation needed to jumpstart a robust economic recovery and get more people back to work. While Democrats fought to deliver the resources needed to get our economy back on track, every single Republican Senator voted against a coronavirus relief package that has put money in people’s pockets, expanded vaccine access, and rescued our struggling restaurants and small businesses. As Americans experience the tangible benefits of this relief bill, they won’t forget that amid an unprecedented crisis, Republicans obstructed, delayed, and voted against relief for hardworking families.”

May’s “strong” jobs report is the “latest sign of a strengthening recovery” as “hiring accelerated” and the unemployment rate fell to 5.8 percent. And for the fifth straight week in a row, jobless claims fell “to a new pandemic low,” yet another sign “that the U.S. job market is regaining its health.”

Economists attribute the “job market’s steady recovery” to increased vaccine distribution and falling coronavirus caseloads –– made possible by Senate Democrats and President Biden’s American Rescue Plan.
