IN THE STATES: Democrats Hold GOP Senate Candidates Accountable For Anti-Choice Records as SCOTUS Considers Restricting Medication Abortion Nationwide

As the Republican U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments on a case that could restrict access nationwide to the medication abortion pill mifepristone, here is a look at how health care providers, voters, local leaders and Democrats in Senate battleground states are holding Senate Republican candidates accountable for their agenda opposing reproductive freedom and access to medication abortion.

  • In Arizona, the Arizona Democratic Party called out Kari Lake’s support for a complete ban on medication abortion, saying, “I would very much support banning those types of abortion pills.” Lake has said abortion “is not health care,” but that it is a “sacrifice” and an “execution.”

  • In Florida, Debbie Mucarsel-Powell slammed Rick Scott for his extreme attacks on medication abortion, including filing an amicus brief urging the Supreme Court to restrict mifepristone access nationwide.

  • In Michigan, the Michigan Democratic Party highlighted that Mike Rogers, Peter Meijer, Sandy Pensler, and Justin Amash all have extensive anti-abortion records that are out-of-step with Michigan voters.
  • In Montana, Missoula Mayor Andrea Davis, doctors, and Montanans who started their family with IVF treatment held a press conference calling out Tim Sheehy’s opposition to women’s reproductive freedom, including Sheehy’s refusal to support federal protections for IVF treatment.
  • In Nevada, the Nevada Democratic Party called out Sam Brown for refusing to condemn the mifepristone case.

  • In Ohio, the Ohio Democratic Party blasted Bernie Moreno for his support for a national abortion ban without exceptions that would overturn the will of Ohioans who voted to protect reproductive rights last November.

  • In Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Democratic Party highlighted David McCormick’s support for a national abortion ban without exceptions for rape or incest.
  • In Texas, the Texas Democratic Party called out Ted Cruz for leading the charge to ban mifepristone.
  • In Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Democratic Party called out Eric Hovde for refusing to protect access to medication abortion.
  • And the DSCC released a statement calling out NRSC Chair Steve Daines, Senators Cruz, Scott and GOP Senate leaders like Thune, Cornyn and Barrasso for signing an amicus brief urging the Supreme Court to restrict mifepristone access nationwide.
